Every Sunday in May – Nice Folklore Festival

Fete-des-Mai-2012-Nice

The 1st of May and every Sunday in May, the Nice Folklore Festival, Lu Festin de Nissa, takes over the Jardins de Cimiez to celebrate the debut of springtime… just as they’ve done every May for hundreds of years.

With free entry, a family atmosphere and celebrating all-things-Nicoise, this centuries-old festival under-the-olive-trees features traditional dancing, costumes, roving musicians, animations and folklore, plus local food (socca, pissaladieres…), traditional games (petanque and pilou), and lots and lots of picnicking!

As long as you’re up there, why not combine it with a visit to the Matisse Museum, the extraordinary Roman Bath Ruins (Musee de l’Archaeologie), the magnificent Monastery gardens, or the surprising and little-known Franciscan Monk Museum, tucked into the church and with a fascinating exhibit on the Shroud of Turin, which was held in Nice for a time.

Here’s how to get to Cimiez by bus, and since on May 1 there are no buses running, here is how to get there by Uber!

Don’t forget that on May 1st there are no buses and the museums are closed, as May 1st is Labor Day in Europe.
