What to Do in November in and around Nice – 2024
C’est Pas Classique (It’s Not Classic) is a super fun and sometimes quite strange FREE music festival, from November 9-24, 2024, with over 25 free concerts. To see the program, just click on ‘program’ and then scroll down. For most concerts you just show up, but a few of the hottest ones need free tickets, and online reservations open on October 21.
The Picasso Museum in Antibes offers a free week for everybody every November, and this year it’s November 5-10, 2024.
Nice-Cannes Marathon Sunday November 3, 2024 – Just possibly the most picturesque marathon course in the world!
Free Parc Phoenix Weekend for local residents – Saturday/Sunday November 2/3. The first full weekend of each month Parc Phoenix nature park/arboretum is free to local residents (but you need to bring proof: a recent phone or electric bill, or tax notice). Right after lunch is the busiest time with a line to get in so mornings or late afternoons are best. Tram stop Parc Phoenix
Stand-up Comedy in English – Sunday Nov. 10 and also Nov. 24, 2024, Bobar Comedy Club in Old Nice does a stand-up comedy show (Spill the Tea) in English at 5:15pm and cover charge is just 8€ or 5€ students. 27 rue Benoit Bunico, tram stop Cathedrale.
English Stand-up Open Mic at Read the Room – Free – Thursday November 7, 2024, 7:30pm-9:30pm. Bobar is hosting the first ever English Stand Up Open-Mic in Nice, at the new English Language bookstore and coffee shop Read the Room. Blind Date? Here’s an out-of-the-box idea, a Blind Dinner Nov. 6 or Nov. 20, 2024. Blindfolded before being lead to your table, you’ll experience your meal in a way you will never forget! Tickets for the 3-course blind dinner are 60€, and you select meat, fish or veg. Starts at 8:30pm at Ornato Restaurant 54 blvd Jean Jaures, tram stop Massena.
The uncorking of the Beaujolais Nouveau, a young red wine that by law can’t be sold before the third Thursday in November, is an excellent excuse for a festive moment in every wine shop in France! Click the link above to find out what it’s all about…
For a fun and oh-so-French way to celebrate, Hit a Nizza bar and café is throwing a Beaujolais apero concert featuring classic French chansons accompanied by… accordion, bien sur! 6:30pm-8:30pm, Thursday 21 November, Hit a Nizza 11 rue Lapante, tram stop Jean Medecin. Free Sunday Orchestra Concerts – FREE – Every Sunday at 3:30pm the Nice Orchestra d’Harmonie gives a free concert in the either the Church in the Port (tram stop Port) or the Basilica Notre Dame (tram stop Jean Medecin). Click here for this week’s concert program.
Afterwork Jazz Concert at ‘secret bar’ Cave Bianchi – November 20 and 21, 2024, 7pm, Part of the Nice Opera’s Afterwork series, this short 1-hour homage to Classic Guitar is held in a historic ‘secret bar’ that is rarely open to the public. The 20€ ticket covers your first drink, but honestly this surprising venue is so cool you won’t want to miss it. 7 rue Raoul Bosio, tram stop Opera or Massena.
The Monte-Carlo Jazz Festival, November 21-December 1, 2024, held in the opulent Opera Garnier in Monaco, blending traditional jazz with creative influences in a stunning venue.
Early Weekend Jazz at Shapko – Now that it’s getting dark so early, Shapko Jazz Club in Old Nice has just added an early band, from 7:30pm to 9:30pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays. No cover charge, great live music. 5 rue Rossetti, tramstop Cathedrale.
Thanksgiving is the holiday that tugs hardest on the heartstrings of American expats, because the last Thursday in November is just a day like any other here in France…So attention nostalgic Americans: La Barque Bleue Restaurant in the Nice Port is offering a traditional Thanksgiving menu with all the trimmings, lunch, late lunch, or dinner, from Thursday November 28 all weekend through Sunday December 1st, for 45€ euros per person. Annual Lighting Ceremony – Free – 6pm Thursday November 28 at Place Massena. The mayor presides over this festive annual event to inaugurate the Christmas Village, but the best part is when suddenly all the holiday illuminations surrounding Place Massena go live all at once. This is the spot to snap that shot in time to make custom holiday photo cards…
Flea Market on the Nice Port – FREE – Sunday Nov 24, 2024 – Vide Grenier means ’empty your attic’ …and empty it they do, with all kinds of oddball stuff trading hands at bargain basement prices. One person’s trash is another one’s treasure, and believe me, ‘treasures’ abound at these local sales. Tram stop Port.
English Book Sale – Saturday 30 November 2024, from 10am-3pm. The small but overflowing English-American Library holds a semi-annual book sale to trim down their stacks. All books are in English and just 1€! Find the sample table in the garden of the Holy Trinity Church 11 rue de la Buffa, and from there they will show you the way to the historic hidden library in the basement of the church, where it has been delighting English-speaking expats since 1862.
Black Friday Sales – France has jumped on the Black Friday bandwagon, even if they don’t really have any idea what it is or why… but who cares? Hit the Black Friday Sales the entire last half of November, cha-ching!
Classical Concerts in Nice – There is a whole slate of at least 10 classical concerts every month by different Baroque and Classical ensembles performing in Nice’s fabulous Baroque Churches.
The Nice Opera has all kinds of events going on all month long: Here is this month’s schedule
- Insider Tip: The Nice Opera ticket office has a last-minute ticket line, where one hour before the performance, unsold tickets drop to half-price
- And for students and under-30s these last-minute tickets are a fixed price of just 5€!
Catch the last Candlelight Concerts of the season at the Nice Observatory on November 1, 2 and 3. A one-of-a-kind concert venue in a historic (but still operating) observatory lit only by a thousand candles… Tickets start at 35€ and the Observatory is a bit complicated to get to, but worth it for a unique concert in a truly magical ambiance. Later in the month the concerts are held at the Center Universitaire Méditerranéen which is less spectacular, but has great sightlines and is super easy to get to. Jazz/Blues/Rock Concerts in Nice Besides nightly concerts at local jazz clubs and rock bars, there is also a robust monthly concert schedule with Nice Music Live; the concerts at Theatre de Verdure, Black Box, and Stockfish, all have easy tramway access.
Get in the winter spirit with a little ice skating! Nice has a full-sized indoor ice skating rink with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the rooftops, and it’s just 7€ including skate rental. Easy access: the Patinoire Jean Bouin is right across from the Palais des Expositions tram stop.
